# Inventory

> What you have to trade.

Enter an item once with its name, condition, price, description and photos. It is
then available for every listing you make.

Your inventory is private. Nobody sees the whole list, and nobody sees the
description you wrote for yourself.

## Photos

Add them through the app. Links from anywhere else are refused.

Upload time is recorded server side, so a photo proves recency.

Your subreddit may require photos on some or all items before you can list them.
The composer names the items that are short and lets you add photos without
leaving it.

## Conditions

Your subreddit sets the list of conditions and can change it. An item keeps the
condition it was saved with, and still shows it, even after moderators drop that
option.

Conditions are stored as short keys rather than the words on the card. That
matters in one place, the `condition` column of a
[spreadsheet](/traders/import-export).

## Statuses

**Pending is not a status you can set.** Accepting an offer holds both sides'
items until the trade resolves; the trade closing releases them.

Marking an item **traded** removes it from new listings and shows it as traded on
every post already advertising it. It is reversible: mark it available again at
any time.

## How many you can hold

Your subreddit sets the cap, and 200 is the ceiling. Above the cap you see your
newest 200 items and are told so.

If moderators lower the cap nothing is deleted. You keep everything and can still
edit, list and delete, but cannot add until you are back under.

## An item on more than one listing

An item can sit on several live posts at once. Nothing is locked to a listing,
which matters where posting is rate-limited and last week's listing is still up.

Marking one traded updates it on all of them.

## Seeing another trader's items

Where your subreddit allows it, tapping a username opens the items that trader
currently has **on a live listing post**: name, condition, price and one photo,
with each row linking to the post it is on. Never their description, and never
anything pending or already traded.

Items nobody has posted are not shown. Anything you can see of another trader's
is something they published under their own name, so you can open it in context
and report it if it needs reporting. Your own unposted items work the same way in
reverse: they are yours alone until you publish a listing.

If somebody's screen is empty, they have nothing posted right now. Listing posts
expire after 90 days, so a trader who has not posted recently shows nothing even
when their inventory is full.

It is also how somebody answering your offer can counter with an item you did not
put on the table.

## Editing and deleting

Editing is unavailable on a traded item. Mark it available first.

Changing a name, description or photos also rewrites the body of every live
listing advertising the item, so a post never describes a version of it that no
longer exists. That rewrite is best-effort: if it fails, the post still shows the
current item in the app, and only the plain-text body that old Reddit and automod
read is briefly stale.

Deleting an item on a live listing does not remove it from the post. The entry
stays there as a thumbnail and a short description, and the confirmation says how
many posts that affects.

An item held by an open trade cannot be deleted until the trade resolves.

## Finding things

Search matches item names and descriptions. The **Active** and **Traded** toggle
sits beside it, and there is a grid and list view toggle that remembers which you
picked.

List view leaves out the description and the post count to fit a row. Tap an
item's name to open it in full: the description, every photo, and which listings
it is on. The same tap works on the items of a listing post you are reading.

Items load 60 at a time, with a button under them that says how many are left.

## Notes

* **Items expire.** Your subreddit sets an idle window, floored at 90 days, and
  the clock is the last time an item was edited, listed or marked traded. See

* **An item in an open trade is never deleted at any age.**
* **Photos can be reordered and one set as the cover**, which is the one the
  feed card and the listing thumbnail use.
