# Wants

> What you are looking for.

Your want list prefills every listing you publish. Editing the wants on one post
does not write back to the list.

If your subreddit uses region tags, your region is saved here too.

## How it reaches a listing

The details step has two want fields, and the saved list fills the second one.

| Field | Where it lands | Prefilled from |
| ------------- | -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Wants (title) | The `[W]` half of the post title | Your subreddit's first suggested option, or `Offers` where it suggests none |
| Wants (body) | The post body only | Your saved want list |

Your subreddit sets how many reach the title, three by default. The full list
appears in the post body whatever the title had room for, and entries are dropped
whole, so a title never ends in half a want.

## Terms and shipping

The details step has another box, **Listing note**, for shipping and payment
terms and anything else about the post rather than about what you are after. Put
them there and not in your saved want list. The note prints above your wants in
the post body, and it is per post: your saved list is not the place for it,
because editing it here would change every listing you publish afterwards.

See [publishing a listing](/traders/publishing) for the rest of the step.

## Suggested options

Your subreddit may list common wants, such as a payment method or trade-only.
What that does depends on a second setting:

* **Free text on.** The title field is a comma-separated box, opened with the
first option already in it. Type whatever you like over it.
* **Free text off.** The title field is a checklist and you tick from the list,
with the first option ticked to start.

A subreddit that listed nothing is always open text, and the box opens holding
`Offers`, which is what the title falls back to if you clear it.

## The list itself

Markdown, up to 2,000 characters. That is the same limit a listing's want body
allows, so anything that fits here fits in a post.

## Region

Up to 24 characters. **The composer shows your subreddit's format and a worked
example**, so this is not something you have to look up.

Your subreddit decides whether a region is required, optional, or not used at
all.

**Saving here is never blocked by the format.** A region that no longer matches
your subreddit's template saves anyway, with a note that a post using it will not
publish until you change it.

## Notes

* **Wants are stored as text and never linked.** Naming an item you are after
does not connect it to anything.
* **The list is a prefill, not a field on a listing.** Nothing on a published
post changes when you edit it.
* **The list expires after 180 days**, rolling from the last time you changed it.
